Recent News:
-
April 16th: As promised last month, we have reduced our retail
.ca registration price to $12.50 (from $12.99). The various
discounts have not changed, so even our bulk clients will see a
price drop.
-
April 2nd: The office closure is complete. We are having some phone issues
(calls not getting out to the techs). Voicemail _is_ working well, so
please don't hesitate to leave a message. We all get alerted (including
caller ID) when voicemail is left, so you should get a prompt response!
-
March 2008: We're going to close our retail office, as almost
no-one uses it and the expense isn't justifiable. Expect news of
a .CA price drop in the not so distant future as we pass some savings on!
It will mean an address change, and probably some phone number changes
as well, but we will keep the main 250-598-7708 number.
-
June: Apparently Shaw is starting to block connections
to SMTP servers outside of their network (they seem to be
doing it in stages). If this affects you, you may need to change
your email client to use the MSA port (587) instead of
the SMTP port. See
http://baremetal.com/support/email_msa.html for more details.
-
June: We've updated our VMail system to allow you to specify
separate scores for marking suspect mail as spam, and for
bouncing it.
-
April 12th: Getting annoying popups from us in your browser? Sorry,
see this page.
-
Jan 19: There seems to be another flood of trojan variants,
and they are changing faster than the virus signatures are being
updated. Instead of playing catch up, we have decided
to be pro-active and ban executable email attachments. If you
need to send .exe files either rename them or put them into
a .zip (or other archive) file.
Unacceptable messages will bounce with an error message to the
effect of "554 5.7.1 unacceptable content/filename: tmpx.exe"
-
January: since many of our clients are getting heavily spammed via
their own feedback forms, we recently updated our mail2 form handling
gadget to force the use of captchas. Documentation
is here. We can disable the
change for an entire virtual server if needed, just ask us!
-
December: We're making multiple changes to the spam-filtering
systems. Clients are reminded that setting any spamassassin threshold
below 5 is _likely_ to block some legitimate mail.
- March 21st (2005): We have added The Land Conservancy's Sooke Potholes
aquisition to our list of charities.
